Tool #5—Class Dojo (Cheryl Hallowell)

Tool #5—Class Dojo
Cheryl Hallowell

Class Dojo (https://www.classdojo.com) is a program that teachers can use to monitor student behavior. This data can be shared with parents. Teachers can easily give and take away points, send pictures, and send announcements.
Features:
·      Easy to use.
·      Free!
·      Increases home-school communication.
·      Helps students self-monitor behavior.
·      Can be used on multiple devices.
Classroom Application:
·      Students can see the results of their behavior choices.
·      Teachers can use this feedback to work with students on needed areas.
·      Teachers can use the feedback to reward individuals or the whole class when specific goals are met.
Ranking:
·      Safety—4 The teacher is in charge of what student data is available.
·      Student Enjoyability—3 I guess students will enjoy Class Dojo if they have positive behaviors or improved behaviors! J Not so much if contact with home is about problem areas. L Students can see the results, but the teacher will award/remove points.
·      Accessibility—4 I am giving a 4 even though the students will not be using this. The teacher will be able to use this tool on multiple devices.
·      Feedback—1 There is potential for positive and meaningful feedback depending on students’ behavior and who that information is shared with.
·      Higher Level Thinking—1 The only higher level thinking will be the creative excuses that students might give for less than positive feedback.
