Tool #1—Blogger
Cheryl Hallowell
Blogger is, well,
a blogging tool. Blog, what a great
word. Did you know if came from “web log” that became “weblog” and then, as is
typical of our language, got shortened to blog?
Of course that has nothing to do with the assignment. I just thought it was
interesting! J
I have started a blog. Since you have nothing else to do, check us out! http://hilltop19.blogspot.com/
Features:
·
Easy to use.
·
Free!
·
Students/teachers can post written work,
pictures, and videos.
·
Feedback can be left.
·
Feedback can be monitored by owner of the blog.
·
Link can be shared.
Classroom
Application:
·
Students can share their work to a broader
audience.
·
Students can get feedback from others beside the
teachers.
·
Students can improve writing by editing their
posts to include any additional information asked for (from the feedback).
·
Students can have increased pride in work.
·
Teacher can monitor (and remove) any
inappropriate feedback.
Ranking:
·
Safety—4
The teacher is in charge of what student data is available.
·
Student
Enjoyability—3 Students can be highly motivated to use this. Graphics will
be as good as the teacher makes them.
·
Accessibility—2
For me, this is a 2. My system has Blogger blocked so I am the only one who can
get them to the site. This might vary depending of the practice of the school.
The students cannot log on at home to post, only to read and comment.
·
Feedback—3
There is potential for positive and meaningful feedback depending on what is
given, by whom, and what the student chooses to do with it.
·
Higher
Level Thinking—2 This depends on the students’ and teachers’ assignment
while using the blog.
