Tool 3/8: Remind

My third communication tool is Remind.  I love this one because it was created with teachers in mind.  The purpose is to streamline a teacher's communications with students and parents.  So, from your single Remind account, you can reach any student or parent via any device.  You can group individuals as needed to send out group messages.  So, for example, if you wanted to remind every student in your level 2 classes that they need to watch a video for homework, you could send that out just as easily as messaging an individual.  It keeps everyone's contact information private so you don't have to worry about students or parents seeing your phone number.  You can even enable a chat feature if you need it.
Normally I'm skeptical about communicating directly with students via texts or chats, but Remind seems to be well aware of the dangers there.  It saves all communications and you can download any message or chat whenever you need it.
There are calendar features to schedule reminders for tests or due dates, and you can even add media to your messages.  Imagine being able to send a pdf home to an absent student, complete with a voice memo of instructions for next class!  I think my favorite thing about Remind is that it's free.  Now I just have to convince my district to go for it.
Here's my evaluation of Remind:
