FaceTime allows for one-to-one interaction via a phone, iPad or laptop. It is similar to Skype. FaceTime is free on the iPhone and iPad. It is limited as far as sharing documents and files. Those would have to be done in another manner.
For education, FaceTime allows connection for students who are unable to come to school or even for teachers how want to teach but can't physically be in the classroom. FaceTime could also be used to connect with students or teachers globally.
